Rhinoplasty, or ‘Nose Job’ is one of the most common surgical procedure performed worldwide by plastic surgeon. This surgery is performed to alter the shape and size of the nose, to make it look more elegant and aesthetically appealing on face.
There are two types:
Open Rhinoplasty & Closed Rhinoplasty
Open Rhinoplasty:
In open Rhinoplasty, small incision or cut is made at the columella and inside the nostrils. This provides the surgeon with a wide reach, and is done for more extensive corrections. The incision for open rhinoplasty is placed in such a way, that once healed, scar is barely visible.
Closed Rhinoplasty:
In closed Rhinoplasty, the incision is placed inside the nostrils, and there is no visible scar on the outside after the surgery. Closed Rhinoplasty is done only in cases where minor corrections are required.
This will be decided by your expert Plastic Surgeon after detailed examination and assessment of your nose. After discussing with you regarding your expectation from the Nose Job and practically achievable result.
You can have Rhinoplasty surgery once you are above 16 years of age as before that, the face and nose are not fully matured, and the future growth may alter the shape of the nose.
The patient needs to take the following precautions:
The recovery post Nose Job Surgery is quite smooth. The patient will be discharged on the same day or next day with nose packs, which are removed after 48 hrs. The nose splint will remain in place for up to a week. There will be some swelling and bruising initially, which subsides in 2 weeks.
The result can be visualized after the nose splint is removed and the swelling subsides. However, the results keep improving for up to six months to an year post surgery, during which time, the final shape and contours of your nose get established.
