Cryotherapy or Cryosurgery was discovered in 1800s where a cryogen usually liquid nitrogen in used to cause targeted destruction of tissue by bringing it to subzero temperature. It can be used to treat various conditions like seborrheic keratosis, verruca or warts, skin tags, molluscum contagiosum, solar lentigo and hypertrophic/keloid scars. The treatment needs to be repeated every 3 to 4 weeks.
How It Works?
A detailed consult and examination is done to understand the nature of the disease as a differentiation between premalignant, malignant and benign conditions needs to be made prior the therapy.
How We Do It?
The procedure takes around 20 minutes. A nitrogen dewar (container) is used to point and spray at targeted tissue to freeze it. The targeted tissue is allowed to thaw and freezed again. 3 to 4 such cycles are repeated. There after a layer of antibiotic is applied to prevent secondary infection.
What To Do After The Procedure?
The patient can get back to work ,there can be mild pain and erythema at the site of treatment which is managed with the help of oral and topical medications. The treatment has to be repeated every 2 to 3 weeks till the disappearance of the lesions.
